March Homeschool Plan

Very little planned for March, and we are already behind! But this is going to be such a fun month! The kids and I are going to be in Hawaii for 3 weeks! 3 WEEKS!! It will be fun, but with trips that long, we have to keep up at least some of our schooling.

Math
  • IXL - at their own pace
  • Life of Fred Honey - we are going to re-start this, and hopefully finish it on our trip
  • MathUSee - Epsilon (Kate) at her own pace, lots of review in Hawaii; Delta (Jack) through Unit Test 2 with lots of review in Hawaii (esp long multiplication!)
  • Times Tales DVD (Jack) - view a few times/week
Language Arts 
  • Scribblers online writing class (Kate) - continue
  • Tutoring (Jack) - 3x/week while in town
  • First Language Lessons Level 4 - want to finish the main lessons before we leave
  • SpellingUSee - continue Modern Milestones (Kate) and Wild Tales (Jack) at a pace appropriate for travel
  • Spelling City and OSMO Spelling (Jack)
  • Grammarland - read while traveling
  • Independent Reading - Kate will continue reading from the Battle of the Books list, Jack is working through Judy Blume's Fudge series
  • Battle of the Books team - meets weekly for Kate while in town
  • Comprehension/Vocabulary/Book Reports - EdHelper questions/worksheets/vocab as applicable to reading plus book reports
History/Social Studies/Geography/Biography/Religion/Literature/Art
  • Story of the World Vol II - IR/audiobook - through ch 14
  • Review past poem memorization notebook
  • Audiobooks -  not sure...
  • Read Aloud - Ramayana Divine Loophole by Sanjay Patel
Science - nothing formal planned in March

Other 
  • Speech therapy (Jack) - 2x/week while in town
  • CNN Student News - 5x/week
  • Wonderopolis.org - 5x/week
  • Keyboarding Without Tears - Jack will work on Level 3 at his own pace, Kate will start Grade 5 
  • Homeschool Enrichment Program - weekly while in town
  • Swim Team 3-4x/week plus dry land training weekly while in town
  • Ski School plus fun skiing - few days in March
  • Field Trips - Hawaii!

February Homeschool Review - instead of doing a separate blog post reviewing what we did the previous month, I'm going to try just adding our previous month review below the current month's plan

Math
  • IXL - a bit at their own pace
  • Life of Fred - didn't do any of this
  • MathUSee - Dividing fractions slowed us down a bit and Kate made it through Epsilon Lesson 10; Jack completed through Delta Lesson 11
  • Times Tales DVD (Jack) - completed several times a week
Language Arts 
  • Scribblers online writing class (Kate) - in progress
  • Tutoring (Jack) - 3x/week
  • First Language Lessons Level 4 - through Lesson 70
  • SpellingUSee - Kate started Modern Milestones, and Jack started Wild Tales
  • Independent Reading - reading is going well, I keep a separate log of what they have read
  • Battle of the Books team - meets weekly for Kate
  • 5th grade essay contest - Kate - through homeschool program - skipped this 
  • Comprehension/Vocabulary/Book Reports - EdHelper questions/worksheets/vocab as applicable to reading plus book reports - yup
  • Gratitude Journal 3-4x/week - we took a break in Feb
History/Social Studies/Geography/Biography/Religion/Literature/Art
  • Story of the World Vol II - through ch 7
  • The Old Testament/Illustrated Jewish Bible for Children - took a break
  • Review past poem memorization notebook - with grandmas while I was in Mexico
  • Audiobooks - finish The Knights' Tales by Gerald Morris - finished but didn't start another
  • Read Aloud - finish The Saga of Eric the Viking - finished
Science - nothing formal in Feb

Other 
  • Speech therapy (Jack) - 2x/week
  • CNN Student News - 5x/week
  • Wonderopolis.org - 5x/week
  • Keyboarding Without Tears - Level 3 - Kate finished
  • Cursive Without Tears (Jack) - no
  • Latin (Kate) - no - I'm not sure we are going to continue this...
  • Homeschool Enrichment Program - weekly
  • Swim Team 3-4x/week plus dry land training weekly plus a swim meet for Kate
  • Ski School plus fun skiing - 6-8 days on the mountain in Feb
  • Tennis lessons - just once
  • Field Trips - went to science museum to see Silk Roads exhibit
