October Homeschool Plan

Again I'm not sure how travel will affect our progress this month. We are gone for longer this time, but we will have more down time to do some school work. So who knows!

Math
  • KhanAcademy - continue 3-4x/week, advance at own pace
  • Calculadder - continue 3-4x/week, advance at own pace
  • Life of Fred - finish Goldfish, start Honey
  • MathUSee - work at a steady pace and hope to finish up Delta (Kate) and Gamma (Jack) by Thanksgiving
Language Arts 
  • Scribblers online writing class (Kate) - continue, need to look into next class
  • Tutoring (Jack) - continue 3x/week
  • Increasing Fluency (Jack) - plan to do this while traveling
  • First Language Lessons Level 4 - will break while traveling, hopefully will get to Lesson 16 by end of month
  • Grammarland - we've started this book before, I think we'll try to reread it while traveling
  • SpellingUSee - continue to work through at a steady pace
  • AlphaBetter drills - continue 3-4x/week, advance at own pace
  • Using Picture Books to Teach Writing With Traits - start chapter 2 after travels
  • Reading - Kate is working through the Battle of the Books list plus a few novels relevant to our travels, Jack will continue to work through Magic Tree House books
  • Audiobooks - mostly Jack, I really need to take stock of what he has listened to. He listens constantly, and I can't keep up!
  • Comprehension/Vocabulary/Book Reports - EdHelper questions/worksheets as applicable to reading
  • Gratitude Journal - would like to get back to 3-4x/week
History/Social Studies/Geography/Biography/Religion/Literature/Art
  • Story of the World Vol I - we'll probably get stuck on Alexander the Great for awhile
  • The Old Testament/Illustrated Jewish Bible for Children - read through Life in Egypt and start Life in Canaan
  • EHM's Storybook Artists - Quentin Blake - hopefully we'll get to this in Oct...
  • Call of the Wild audiobook - finish
  • Carl Sandburg poetry/biography/historic site 
Science
  • Physics - finish What's Physics All About? book, continue to work through experiments in physics workbook (maybe?)
  • Planet Earth test worksheets from Enchanted Homeschool Mom that we started last year  (maybe?)
  • Wolves - finish up with resource list - it's mostly fun DVDs and such now
  • Monarch Butterflies - I thought I was excited about wolves... this has the potential to be AMAZING! Just so happens that the monarch are migrating through the Smoky Mountains while we are there.
  • Salamanders
  • Experiment with pH paper - we talked about pH levels in Yellowstone a lot
Other 
  • Speech therapy (Jack) - contine 2x/week
  • CNN Student News - 3-4x/week
  • Wonderopolis.org - 3-4x/week
  • Keyboarding Without Tears - Level 3 - continue 3-4x/week
  • The Story of Stuff curriculum program - maybe?
  • HTML programming class online - finish
  • Cursive Without Tears (Jack) - attempt at least 2x/week
  • Latin (Kate) - complete through review of unit 2
  • Homeschool Enrichment Program - weekly
  • Swim Team - 3-4x/week plus dry land training weekly
  • Volleyball - Kate - weekly
  • Lego Class - Jack - finish & figure out next class
  • C25K program - maybe?
  • Field Trips - Mammoth Cave National Park, Smoky Mountains National Park, Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, maybe wolf place
