September Homeschool Plans - Review

Things that went as planned and are working well:
  • Online poetry class (Kate)
  • Tutoring (Jack)
  • Sight Words app (Jack)
  • Cursive Handwriting Practice: Jokes & Riddles (Kate)
  • Vision Therapy (Jack)
  • Swim Team 2-3x/week
  • Lacrosse practice/games (Jack)
  • Logic Work: Beginning Links to Logic (Jack), Perplexors(Kate), Daily Word LaddersSequencers
  • Grammar: Review memory work from last year, start First Language Lessons Level 3. Plan to do 4 lessons/week (We got through lesson 9 of Level 3 in September)
  • Math: Math U See - almost finished Beta, waiting to progress in Gamma with Kate until multiplication facts memorized better
  • IXL and XtraMath and Times Tales DVD (also added Life of Fred Apples)
  • Quick study (although Lewis & Clark became a pretty in depth study!) on St. Louis, the Gateway Arch, Lewis & Clark, Chicago, Michigan for October travel
  • Biography: George Washington Carver & Abraham Lincoln (added Ulysses S Grant)
  • Road Trip: Colorado to Dallas to St. Louis (George Washington Carver NM, Grant's Farm, Ulysses S Grant Home NHS, Gateway Arch/Jefferson National Expansion Monument)
Things that went otherwise:
  • Increasing Fluency (Jack) - I decided to go another direction since we were traveling. I'm still considering this one.
  • Apple 1:1  - nope. Obviously need to schedule this ahead of time
  • Keyboarding (Kate - too much other stuff going on)
  • Couch 2 5K - really, really want to do this with the kids. blah.
  • Story of the World - planned to get through Ch17. We only made it to Ch 11. Too many other social studies with our trip.
  • Spelling: Nada.
  • Daily Reading Comprehension - haven't even ordered the workbooks.
  • Baking class - this isn't going quite the way I want. Going to get some baking cookbooks to help me organize our learning
  • Assigned Reading: Long Way From Chicago - decided to put this off. Instead Jack read Miss Daisy is Crazy and started Mr. Klutz is Nutz as read alouds, and Kate read The 40 Acre Swindle and started My Brother Abe
  • Science museum class - too much other stuff going on
  • Horseback riding lessons - haven't even called. Decided there was no point when we were going out of town for 3 weeks!
  • Piano Lessons - ditto above
  • Weather Lab - nope

Sounds like you had a great trip! I'm jealous of the idea of an extended road trip but I'm not sure how the boys (and I) would do in reality. I would love to know the sight words app you are using for Jack.
