Al Fresco Dining

The season of outdoor eating for our family officially started on Thursday night (we had Skillet Gnocchi - a new favorite in our family). We'll probably have another cold snap or two causing us to move back inside, but for the next several months we'll be eating most meals outdoors.

Matt and I started eating outside regularly right after we got married. Our first house together in Indiana had a great screened in back porch looking out onto a private, lush backyard. In cohousing we had a great back deck overlooking the community garden and loved eating to the sounds of the community. Our new home is made for outdoor meals as well. We have a flagstone patio off to one side of the yard and a terrific view of the mountains. I'm guessing it will only be a few more weeks until we'll be dining with the scent of lilac bushes. But the best part about al fresco dining in Colorado? No bugs!

Our umbrella and furniture went out on the deck last weekend. It's so nice to just sit and relax on in an outside space after being trapped inside all winter. Can't wait to try the Skillet gnocchi!!

I love to eat in the backyard when the weather is nice in the spring and summer. I've got my eye on this chic and inexpensive outdoor set:

The only difference is that I live in California, plenty of mosquitoes!
