Difficult Day

A cohousing community member was hit by a car and killed last night while riding his bike. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met with a peaceful, spiritual aura. A 20-something who always stopped to say hi to Kate and Jack. The driver is suspected of being drunk and possibly under the influence of drugs. I am still in a bit of shock and disbelief. Another reminder of how precious life is.

Sorry to hear that, Kristin. Have you thought about what you might say to the kids if they ask you about him or where he has been? It's such a delicate subject with little ones.

Oh, I'm so sorry!!!! What a shocking, horrible thing to happen to such a young person. Take care of yourself. It's going to take a lot of time to sink in.

If your kids are anything like mine, they probably will just accept this as not a big deal in their little worlds, unless they spent a lot of time with this person. I think because their worlds aren't fully formed yet, and things happen all the time that they don't really understand, it's not such a big deal when something that's hugely out of the ordinary to us happens to them. If it's not them, personally, they don't process it.

My condolences to you, your community and his family. As someone who has done her fair share of bike commuting that is always one of my greatest fears. May his spirit rest in peace.
